Documentary ‘IN ONE CITY – EXPLORING DIFFERENCE’ The Office of National Statistics states that by 2030 the total number of people living in Leeds will have risen by 30%. This will include higher numbers of younger people and larger numbers from ethnic minorities. Create Academy recruiting in Doncaster

CREATE is all about assisting people who have slept rough, been homeless, marginalised, vulnerable or at risk into structured pathways to employment; we do this through a mixture of real work experience, accredited training and all round support to get a job and stay in work.

The Academy programme last for 12 weeks and is a combination of voluntary work in the CREATE Doncaster businesses for around 21 hours a week, plus time in the Academy reviewing and consolidating what has been learnt, looking at what employers want/expect and job search sessions. Support will be given during the 12 weeks by experienced trainers who will provide help and support to gain qualifications in basic key skills, Customer service and food safety as well as active job search and CV update sessions.

Grants Available to Support Homeless People into Work

Grants of up to £2,500 are available from the Changing Lives Programme. The objective of the programme is to empower homeless people to change their own lives through providing funding which can help them achieve their vocational and career objectives.

The deadline for submission of applications is 5 May 2011.

Lippy People Successful ERDF Access Fund Application

Lippy People have been successful with their ERDF Access Fund Application, Lippy Futures. The pilot project, funded by Leeds Community Foundation, Yorkshire Forward and European Regional Development Fund will start delivery in September 2011. In partnership with Askham Grange women’s open prison, Lippy Futures aims to help individuals plan, set-up, run and develop micro social-enterprises as part of both reparation and resettlement. It seeks to positively build on the often ‘enterprising nature’ of prisoners at a point in their lives when they have had time and support to reflect on their impact and plan for the future.

Grants Available to Support Homeless People into Work

Grants are available to provide funding towards the following:

Accredited courses that are linked directly to the applicant’s vocational/career goal.
Tools and equipment for courses that are linked directly to an applicant’s vocational/career goal.
Tools and equipment to use for a job linked directly to an applicant’s vocational/career goal.
Tools and equipment and practical costs to become self-employed.

Applications are invited from those who fulfil the following criteria:

Over 18.
Have the right to remain and work in the UK indefinitely.
Have been homeless in the last five years.
Are free from substance or alcohol misuse for at least six months.
Are working with a support worker who is willing to support the application.

The deadline for submission of applications is 5 May 2011.

Shared Voices Screening
